Demonstration on how to quickly import and/or
delete lists of stocks/equities in Investor/RT via Yahoo!, text files, and
quotepages, and how to quickly download data on the new lists.
The seamless integration of Investor/RT
with Yahoo! Finance gives any user a powerful yet free data source
for daily historical data, current quotes, and
fundamental data. In addition, Investor/RT
interfaces with the Yahoo! Finance stock screener to allow users to
quickly build their own custom lists of symbols within given price and
average volume ranges (defined by the user). Investor/RT also offers
low price options for end-of-day versions, starting at $19/month. To
sign up for the Yahoo! Finance version, click
here. Remember to select a
"Non-Streaming End-of-Day" product option from the grid. More
information on Yahoo! Finance historical daily data, fundamental data, and
stock screening follows.
Downloading Historical Daily Data
The Data Download window "Source Menu" lists "Yahoo Finance" as a
source for retrieving daily, weekly, or monthly historical data from the
Yahoo Finance web site. End-of-Day users of Investor/RT will find this a convenience and reliable
source of historical data. The latest daily bar data from Yahoo updates
quotepages, portfolios, etc. Historical downloading from Yahoo is also
available in the free demonstration version of Investor/RT so that
evaluators of the Investor/RT product may update daily, weekly, monthly
charts of the Dow Jones 30 Industrial stocks setup in the demonstration
version.
An historical download during the
session will not provide the current day's data. It is recommended
that users follow an historical download with a current quotes download,
as the current quote will get the data for the current day. Also,
once an historical download has been performed on a large group of
symbols, the much faster "current quotes" download can be performed once
per day to keep the daily data complete and up-to-date. See below
for more details on current quote downloads.
Current Quotes
The Current Quotes options allows the user to quickly access current data
on a large group of stocks, including current price, high, low, open,
volume, previous close, bid, ask, and time of last trade. Accessing
of current quotes can be schedule to occur periodically. A current
quotes download always updates the current daily bar in daily charts, and
gives the user a quick method of downloading the last daily bar, either
during or after the session.
Stock Screening
The Stock Screener requests symbol lists from the Yahoo Finance Stock
Screener web site (screen.yahoo.com/stocks.html).
Use Setup: Screen to access this feature. The Yahoo! Screener
feature has been enhanced by making a number of additional criteria
available for screening.

Recommendation
The user can screen for these criteria
to be above a certain level, below a certain lever, or between two user
defined levels. While the Yahoo! Finance web site screener limits you to
specific values for each criteria, Investor/RT lets the user specify the
exact numbers they would like to use. The numbers available in the menu
lists are guidelines; enter any value into the entry boxes.
The Yahoo! database of stocks includes over 8600
stocks from the Nasdaq, NYSE, and AMEX exchanges. A check box labeled
“Exclude OTC BB (.OB) and Other OTC (.PK) Stocks” excludes any stocks
considered OTC BB (with .OB endings) and “Other OTC” (with .PK endings)
from the results. Screen setups can be named and saved for future
reference. Once the criteria have been specified, click the “Screen”
button. Investor/RT connects to Yahoo! with your screen request. When
Yahoo! responds, the user is presented with the number of stocks that were
found. You may proceed to import those symbols or cancel. The retrieval
process will take approximately 2 to 3 seconds per symbol. The user can
cancel the process at any time by clicking the cancel button.

To download these values for any quotepage of symbols, click on the
"Download" button in the main toolbar to open the Download Data
window. Select the Source: "Yahoo! Finance" and the Type: "Fundamental
Data". Choose the "All Instruments in Quotepage" option on the left,
and select the quotepage for which you would like to download
fundamental data. Now click the "Download" button. Data retrieval will
take approximately 2 to 3 seconds per symbol.
The "Download Data" schedule action has also been enhanced to allow
scheduling of "Yahoo! Finance Fundamental" downloads.
Industry and Sector
Sector and Industry names for stocks can be downloaded from Yahoo! Finance
using the Data Download window. You can request the download for
individual stocks, or for all symbols in any quotepage. If you have
hundreds of stocks setup in IRT and you add a few new ones from time to
time you can simply request industry and sector for your .Stocks quotepage
again and IRT will quickly update just those new stocks that do not yet
have this information. You can of course show Sector and Industry as
columns in your quotepage. IRT Professional users can run scans to list
stocks in certain sectors or industry groups.
