Continuous Futures Contracts

This support page, starting with a quick reminder of key notions about individual future contract specifications, discusses the different types of continuous contracts and how they are built and accessible within Investor/RT.

Part 1 - Futures 101: contract symbols, “front month” and rollover calendar notions

Here are a few reminders about futures contract specifications

Sessions 101

This support page discusses how “Full Session” and “Day Session” are being defined in the instrument setup window, which is important to know when later used within specific indicators (Session statistics, Session Prices, Mixed Periodicity Data etc) for generating key market levels and statistics. Sessions are also used as key input for selecting chart display viewing periods.

Setting up InvestorRT for Forex markets

Below are the market hours for Forex (US/Eastern).

The highest volume / most activity is found during the periods where the markets overlap (seen below). For this reason, these periods are generally considered the best times to trade.

Adjusting for Daylight Saving Time

IMPORTANT

If you have run Investor/RT without closing it through the weekend when Daylight Saving Time (DST) changes took place in the US, it is recommended that you exit Investor/RT and start up again.

Clock offset "N" seconds in my Message Area

Periodically, market data servers send Investor/RT a time of day notification to ensure that the user's computer clock is in sync with the server. When the time of day sent by the server, which we consider authoritative, is offset more than a second or two from the current time of day on your computer clock, this message will appear. It indicates a condition that should be corrected. It is important that your computer clock be set to the exact hour/minute/second every day.
