This video gives a comprehensive overview of trendlines in Investor/RT: how to add and manipulate trendlines, adjusting preferences, scope, parallel and mirrored trendlines, alerts, labels, and much more.
NOTE: This video was produced in 2015. Effective Version 14.1.6, there is a minor change in trendline dragging behavior when a trendline is not setup to snap to some realized price in the chart. Dragging either the start or end point of a trendline will position the start or end point whereever you drag and drop it. Dragging the end point has always worked this way as seen in the video. This is now default behavior when dragging the starting point as well. Investor/RT can also reposition a trendline, retaining its orginal slope. This is now accomplished by dragging any point near the start of the trendline while holding down the shift key. If you prefer this behavior and want it to be the default whenever you drag the starting point of a trendline, set the configuration variable TlineShiftDragCnstSlope true. When true, this configuration variable reverses the meaning of the shift key so that the shift key is not required to initiate a trendline drag retaining the same slope. If you wish to actually move the starting point of the trendline, hold down shift key while dragging the start point. The other dragging option for trendlines, dragging with Ctrl key down, is used to duplicate a trendline. The new trendline retains the same slope and may be dropped at some other location in the chart. The Ctrl key drag is demonstrated in this 2015 video and functions as it always has. It is important to understand that once you move a trendline using any of the methods discussed, the resulting trendline retains the constant slope property thereafter. Thus after Shift+dragging from the start point or Ctrl+dragging a trendline, the resultant trendline is locked in to the slope it had prior to the operation, moving the trendline with simple drag and drop thereafter will retain that same slope in other words. Double-click on the trendline to view/edit its settings if you wish to unset the constant slope check box to enable movement of the start or end point independently to establish a new slope.
