See orders on chart

I'm executing my orders in S5 Dom. How can I see the orders on my chart?

Viewing Order Status and Position Status in Charts

Investor/RT is designed to monitor your fills and working order status as you trade. There are a number of trading related indicators that you can instruct Investor/RT to show in your charts when you are in a trade. See File > Preferences > Trading to setup fill reference lines, annotations, working order reference lines.

To see your position status and working order status, Investor/RT must be configured to the brokerage destination you are using. This is done in the configuration window, accessed by choosing Data > Configure Data Source/Broker... In your case, if you are using Gain order routing with Stage 5 then you choose Gain as the brokerage destination. For other users, CQG, Rithmic, Transact/Infinity, and Interactive Brokers can be specified as the brokerage destination setup.

Once Investor/RT is configured properly and your trading preferences are setup, you can monitor your fills and working orders in the chart. If you right-click in the chart and choose Trade... the ChartTradingDOM will appear at the right side of the chart. You can use this DOM to visualize your fills and working orders and, of course, you can submit orders, revise orders, or cancel orders as well (using the DOM or the reference lines you see in the chart itself).

All instruments you wish to trade must be added to the special quotepage named Trading List to identify them as eligible for trading orders.

If you use DTN IQFEED or eSignal as your market data source, you can configure Investor/RT to use one of the brokerage order routing systems to monitor trading position/status or to execute trades. There are some special setups involved to run in this dual connectivity mode. For example, the ticker @ES# might be used for real-time market data, but the setup for this ticker must denote that ESU8  (for example) is the broker symbol to use for trading purposes. Similarly, even though IQFEED does not require you to enter an exchange, for  trading purposes you must specify the exchange of the broker symbol, e.g. CME for @ES# so that order status for ESU8 on CME is used in communication with the order routing system.

If you have followup question reply here. If you have setup Investor/RT as described above and you do not see position/order status when trading, open a support ticket and we will be happy to help you diagnose the problem.

Reference Line

Hello William,

I've noticed when viewing elements on the chart, there are reference lines that are created whenever an order is placed, filled, working...
I still haven't found what I'm looking for. When the orders are flattened, the reference lines disappear.

What I was looking for is similar to trading signals.
When a buy order is filled, I'd like it to show up on the chart, at the bar and time filled showing as an arrow.

When that trade is closed and a sell order is filled, I would like the same thing to show, keeping all of the arrows on the chart so they can be reviewed later.

Is this possible?

Viewing Order Status and Position Status in Charts

Hello - How do I set up IRT to show working orders and trades on my charts? I am using IQFeed as my data source and Gain as my broker. I see in your response below that I need to set up a dual connectivity but how do I do that? Thanks

Setting up Brokerage Destination

In the Data menu, go to Data > Setup Data Source/Broker and make sure you have IQFeed set as your data source and Gain as the brokerage destination. Once you are configured that way, go to Data > Setup IQFeed/Gain and both the IQFeed and the Gain setup windows will open. Enter your Gain credentials there. Then Start Data and Investor/RT will connect to both IQFeed and Gain. If your hover the mouse pointer over the main toolbar heartbeat icon a help tip should appear telling you the status of both IQFeed and Gain.

Setting up Brokerage Destination

Hey Bill,
I went through these steps but I am still seeing Gain is inactive. It also says IQFeed is offline, which doesn't make sense because the Heart Beat is blinking. See screenshot attached. Thanks

Yes, when an order is filled,

Yes, when an order is filled, Investor/RT creates what we call a trading note, essentially a note for the symbol in question with the date/time stamp recording the action (Buy/Sell) the number of contracts, the account, etc. There is an indicator named “Trading Notes Marker” that will mark the bars in your chart(s) that have notes based on the date/time. Notes may also be created manually by the user by the way. When you point your mouse at such a marker in the chart, the note will appear.

If you want trading notes marker indicator automatically added to your trading charts, then check the appropropriate box in File. > Preferences > Trading > General.
