Ive been adding some buttons to a new chart and a few are button groups. The button groups are setup to show/hide by default and work fine that way but if I change a button to add/remove the group then the custom indicators i have in the group are added to new panes. I was wondering if there was anyway to make them default to the main chart if setup that way? In the future, i want to be able to copy/paste any of the buttons i might need to new charts but the buttons wont work when they are set up to show/hide because the indicators aren't present on the new chart yet.
Thanks,
Dean
Hi Dean,
As you mentioned, before executing a button performing a show/hide indicator (or show/hide group) action, the underlying indicator (or group of indicators) needs to be added to the charts (with their corresponding presets). There is no workaround...
With regards to your issue of having indicators presets added on different panes of a chart, it all comes to the selected targeted “destination” in the add/remove preset group button settings (see screenshot) and how you might have created/set up this button
But for the time being, let's assume
a) that you have a “master” multi-pane chart made of an instrument pane, a second pane with 8 indicators and a third pane with 5 indicators
b) you want to easily copy all 8 indicators of the second pane of your master charts to a newly created chart
The easiest way to automate such a process is to create, on this “master” chart, once and for all, an “add/remove preset group” button, with this button
a) being located on that particular pane (and not on the button pane)
b) having for destination “same pane as button”
c) referencing to a group of presets made of the 8 individual presets of the 8 indicators present on that second pane (see final comment herebelow for more on this step)
d) Ideally save under a "preset name" your button settings (such as "8_indicators_add_button")
This seems a bit lengthy, but you just need to do it once
Then on your newly created charts, you would just need
1) to add a button (with the preset settings "8_indicators_add_button") to a new pane => please note that, to add a button on a specific pane, you need to go through the “Add technical ) indicator” step (and then select button in the list of indicators) to be able to specify on which pane you want to add that button (instead of using the "add button" shortcut)
2) execute the button (this will add your 8 indicators on that new pane)
3) then, you have the option to cut and paste that same button to the button pane and modify its purpose “to show/hide group”
Within 10 seconds, you should have added all 8 indicators to your newly created charts, together with a "toggle" button for showing/hiding them
For the record, if you want to keep the ability to add/remove the group of indicators in your new charts, you may also just keep the add/remove button on the chart pane (and add a separate show/hide button on the button pane)
In that case, to keep your chart clean, please note that on the button pane, you can add a button that would hide all buttons that are not part of the button pane
(see setup below : show/hide category with the category being “Buttons in other panes”)
Some final comments about the way to create a group preset :
There are 2 main options here :
a) either you may use the “button group” action available on the “chart element manager” window, but the main issue with that option is that it will create automatically standard preset names for each indicator and you might have issues distinguishing them if you need, later, to identify a given preset (or want to modify the list of presets being part of that group)
b) either create, first, individual preset name for each indicator (by selecting “new” on the preset feature box available at the bottom left corner of each indicator setup window)
then create a "new" group name in the object manager “group” window
then go to the preset window (of the object manager), select at once all the presets you just created and click the “add to group” button to populate your previously created a “preset group”
A somewhat longer creation process, but this will help a lot (in the long run) if you further need to make any modifications to some of the preset group content (I just reached 600 presets as per my screenshot)
Let me know if this is clarifying your issue or if you need any further information
Eddy
For the record, please find here the latest additions to the button feature, including the very useful "Macro button" that will allow you to execute (at once) several push buttons (located on the same chart) and that could be an alternative, in some cases, to the add remove preset groups button

For the record, if you need to execute a series of actions controlled by buttons in a specific order or at a specific timing, this can be done through a schedule that would include "Execute chart button" actions.
Finally, if you want to further automate / speed up any button related actions, note that any chart button can be executed through a keyboard shortcut (see screenshot below..)
Eddy,
I really appreciate the detailed explanation. Ive was real busy this past week and havent had a chance to give your instructions a try yet.. Hoping ill get some time tomorrow.
Thank you,
Dean
