Message Log

Investor/RT keeps an internal log (a text file) of all ongoing activity. The size of this log file is a user preference (File > Preferences > Message Log). The log is purged of older messages from time to time. Investor/RT can view the message log at any time. When the message log window is open, new messages that arrive are logged and appear dynamically at the bottom of the window. The message log window can be summoned using the keyboard shortcut Alt+M (M as in Message Log). When the message log window is in view, pressing Alt+M again will dismiss the window.

Why are all Windows Floating?

All windows, charts, quote pages, preferences windows, object manager, etc. are floating windows. The benefit of this approach is two-fold: (a) any window is eligible to be positioned on any monitor you wish; windows are not confined to the main Investor/RT window, and (b) all windows are equals; any window can be brought fully to the front and can float above other open windows.

Customizing the Main Toolbar

To customize the icons on the Main Toolbar, go to Setup: Preferences: Main Toolbar. Use this window to choose which buttons you would like to appear in your main toolbar:
