Below are some common problems that users run into when upgrading to the latest version of Investor/RT.
The updater can be found at www.linnsoft.com/download
You must shut down Investor/RT before running the updater. If you fail to do so, you will get a message during the update installation reporting that a file cannot be replaced because it is in use. If you see this error message, shut down Investor/RT and then proceed with installation.
If you're getting an error message that the updater file is incomplete or invalid, download it again, this time giving it a slightly different name. Otherwise, it may keep using the incomplete/invalid copy each time you try to download. To do so, right-click on the download button on the download page, and choose "Save Link As" or "Save Target As". Now, insert a letter or number somewhere in the file name. For instance, change "irt_win_1034.exe" to "irt_win_1034x.exe". That should result in a fresh copy being downloaded and resolve the problem.
Deactivate your license before shutting down Investor/RT prior to upgrading to avoid any license activation issues during the upgrade process. You can do this by going to "File: License Activation" and then click "De-Activate License". Your license will automatically be activated when Investor/RT is launched after upgrading.
If the update asks you to restart your computer, you need to do so before launching Investor/RT. This means the update installed a new version of the licensing service and must restart Windows in order to complete this service installation. If you choose not to restart Windows, you will likely run into licensing activation issues. It is ok to decline to restart immediately in order that you may properly shut down any open programs. But you will need to restart Windows before launching Investor/RT.
If you are having Licensing Activation issues, please see the helpdesk article License Activation and Subscription Management. If you are still unable to resolve the issue, open a new support ticket with details of the error message you are receiving when trying to activate.
